The Special Tertiary Admissions Test (STAT P) is developed by the Australian Council for Educational Research (ACER). The test is designed to assist universities with their selection of students. It allows applicants to demonstrate their ability to cope with tertiary studies, in addition to their Grade 12 achievement results.
STAT P is a 2-hour and 10-minute exam that assesses competencies considered important for successful tertiary study. It evaluates verbal and quantitative reasoning skills. Specific subject knowledge is not required for this exam.
There are 10 test centers available for the STAT P test across PNG in 2017.
The universities listed below require STAT P scores to consider applications for entry to their 2018 courses:
Grade 12 School Leavers (SLs)
The PNG University of Technology (UOT) will only consider the applications of Grade 12 School Leavers (SLs) who take the STAT P test this November.
If you do not book and sit the STAT P test and you are a student currently in Grade 12 (2017), your application will not be considered.
Grade 12 School Leavers (SLs) and Pre-Service Non-School Leavers
The University of Goroka will only consider the applications of Grade 12 School Leavers (SLs) and Pre-Service Non-School Leavers who take the STAT P test this November.
A Pre-Service Non-School Leaver is a person who completed grade 12 in a previous year but did not gain a place at any university yet. This test is not for postgraduate, In-service or PDGE students.
NOTE: for 2018 entry to courses, the University of Natural Resources and Environment (UNRE) & the University of Papua New Guinea (UPNG) do not require their applicants to sit STAT P.
The fee for the STAT P test is K100.00 (non-refundable). This is a one-off fee that covers the test, regardless of which university you apply to.
